Hi guys, I have spent numerous hours surfing trying to find a solution. so your help would be so very much appreciated.

i found a site that does exactly what i want.

    here is the url: http://hiphopgalaxy.com/blogs/wp-signup.php

PROBLEM: i want a user to signup and create their own blog. they must only have access to their blog and not the main site. idealy i would like the new user to have their blog address like http://www.mysite.com/blogs/newusername

The site mentitaned above seems to have this exatly. it even tell the usert to wait for the main site to athenticate it. its great.

    How do i acheive this.

If you have taken the time to read this, i thank you so very much.
All the best to all thw WordPress users out there.

    Be easy

currently they are being created at : http://www.mysite.com/newusername

and after someone can show me how this is possible, can you also show me if its possinle to create all new posts to follow this format:

    thanks again

  5. You have to put the install in that /blogs/ folder to get what you want.

that sounds strigh forward, but could u be more specific please.

do u mean the install of wordpress? if so that wouldnt work for me because the main blog needs to be located at http://www.mysite.com

its just the user blogs that need to be placed at:

so more detailed instructions would be very much appreciated.

  7. then you still need a multisite install located in the /blogs/ folder on the server.

You can't have wordpress at mysite.com, then have the blogs one folder down. Not out of the box, not without another install.

the addresses are formed directly off where the installation is.

In other words, if you want:

then wordpress needs to be installed at:

No, you can't do htaccess magic to force what you want.

(though I will note if you also want to use buddypress and have a social network, it actually creates a PAGE called /blogs/ and gives a directory of all the blogs on the system. which will still be at http://www.mysite.com/)
