If you have just “Members need to be approved” then the site should act as “read only” without ability to interact until approved. If you include the “Private Network” option as well, then it’s not even read-only. They would be limited to just their profile until approved.
If you’re wanting a mix of read-only + private network, let me know.

Thanks for your quick response. I am thinking an option where it just moderates the user but doesn’t affect the website. Without BP options, people can view my members and groups. What the client wants. With WP Options, they can’t view the members’ page or the groups’ page.
What would be great is an alternative “not registered” page or redirect. At least I can say “hey, you can’t view this until you become a member”. What it does now just redirects to the home page which isn’t clear or communicative.

@michael, you are correct. The BB theme people who recommended this plugin, then told me it was the reason it was locking down my WP. So they deactivated it 🙂
