    Hi y’all,

First of all, great plugin! I was looking for something like this and I was glad to find it.

However, if you’re still taking feature requests, I think it would be neat to add a date-picker on the widget (or on the archive page, if not on both) that will let visitors on the frontend choose a specific date and view posts from that date in all the past years.

Hope this is something you can consider for a future release.

Also, is there a shortcode that you can use to insert the ‘archive of all posts on this day’ on any page or post? If not, I think that’ll be helpful too, if it’s not easier to make a Gutenberg block instead. 😉

This is a good suggestion. I’ve always approached this plugin more from an attitude of “serendipitous discovery” so having the ability to select specific dates was never a goal, but it would not be difficult to implement as an option.

I like the idea of adding a shortcode option. Although this was always geared more towards being used in a sidebar, WordPress has evolved away from that to some extent so a shortcode would be a great option for more flexibility.

As for a Gutenberg block… heh… honestly I am one of those curmudgeons who still refuses to fully embrace Gutenberg, as increasingly futile as that stance clearly is. Thank goodness shortcodes work in it because I am not likely to add true block support in the near future.

Version 3.0.0 will be available momentarily.

I’ve added shortcode support. It’s as simple as [on_this_day] to use all of the default options, although it also supports all parameters of the widget. There’s a new admin settings page that explains all of the parameters.

I also added month and day parameters for use with the shortcode, to allow the shortcode to pull posts for an arbitrary date. This is currently the only way to use these, but they’re setting up the possibility of a date picker in the future.

Also setting up for the future, all of the text in the plugin is now wrapped in translation functions. I will be adding the actual translations in a subsequent update.

    That’s amazing. Thanks so much!

About Gutenberg, I’m a full convert now. 😀 Going back to the classic editor feels very limiting now. But there’s a shortcode block so a shortcode would work too. 🙂
