  • Just to confirm the above:
legacy shortcodes display special characters ok, just like before, but new display types show these special characters incorrectly.

I’ve put an example at my testsite:

Still another find: special charachters seem to show correctly in most cases with a couple of my test sites, but as in my previous message states, not with album information using the new display types.

so looks my first post with the wrong characters:

„Auf noch Bayern“ hieß es, als wir (Sabine, Gernot, Reinhard und Bernhard von den Snakeriders) am frühen Freitagnachmittag in Richtung Deutschland zur …

all “, ß, ä, ü and so on are displayed wrong!

there must be a missmatch with the charset!

    anyone a idea?

i also deaktived all my plugins but there was no change … ;(

I also have the same encoding problem.
All was fine with WP 3.6 and NG 1.9.13.
When I updated NG to version 2, the page where the gallery is located appears with broken accents (also WordPress header, not only image captions).
    Waiting for a solution…

Just to let you know.. I tried deactivating all other plugins and then I found that one of mine caused the problem. A tab was shown in the headers prior to page start.
So… NG 2 is perfect for me.

If special characters are shown incorrectly, then it most probably is a plugin conflict. When you have only NGG 2.0 and NextGEN Pro plugins active, the album texts using Pro List Album will not show correctly, but the same album texts show up correctly using legacy shortcode [album id=x]. Also all captions (or rather in NGG’s terms “Descriptions”) show special characters correctly.

Could you jofefe say which plugin caused the conflict, so we all could temporarily deactivate it?

Hi all – Just a heads up that we did not get to looking at encoding / special characters in our first update after 2.0.0, but we’ll be looking at it now. I’ve added a link to this thread in our issue for the developers.

@vesat: thanks very much for the additional insight and troubleshooting you’ve already done.

@jofefe: I agree that if you could post the name of the plugin that was conflicting, that would also be very helpful.

Yes, this still is an issue with NGG 2.0.7 (and Pro 1.0.4), you can see it at my test site:

Hi @mulch, @vesat: I just want to give an update. We think we’ve resolved most encoding issues. A fix will be in our next informal release (not in 2.0.10, but anything after that) here:

It should also be in the next official release, which should come around next Monday.

@vesat: I think I saw elsewhere that you’d updated to 2.0.9. There were some major issues there. So if possible, please update to 2.0.10 now. Thanks.
