All records showing up **before** search – only want searched-for records

  • I’m working on creating a simple search box on my wordpress installation, but it seems to return all records before I search for anything.

This is a problem, because I don’t want the searcher to see any records other than the one they are searching for specifically.

Looking at the “How do I create a search form?” part of the manual, I’ve done it exactly as written (of course, with my table and fields), and it initially displays all records.

Is there an argument that prevents this?

  • Hi highlifelight

A possible solution for you is to have the search results appear on a separate page. They then won’t all appear on your search page and only the appropriate search results will appear on the separate results page.

That is the solution I thought also of but was hoping to avoid as it defeats the purpose of having the search and results on a single page which is handy in a lot of situtations.
