 * Hi,
 * When publishing a changed page I *always* got “Update failed” at the top.
 * After many hours of trying anything, searching a lot of fora, enabling WordPress
   logging (which didn’t show any errors) I was almost exhausted.
 * Until I noticed that a dramatically high number of WP users had reverted to the“
   Classic Editor”.
 * So, I installed the “Classic Editor” plugin keeping open the option which editor
   to choose.
 * When I tried to publish a page using the Classic Editor everything went fine!!!

   So, I hate that I had to spent many hours, just to find out that the new editor
   is the culprit.
 * My advice for people having this problem is to, at least temporarily, install
   the Classic Editor plugin, but with the option to also be able to use the Gutenberg
   Editor enabled.
 * That said I am willing to help solving this issue, if and only if I get clear
   guidance on how to do that.
 * Note about software versions:
    – Windows 10 Pro build 1809 64 bits version –
   Chrome browser latest 64 bits version 72.0.3626.121 – WordPress 5.1 latest update–
   plugins: – Akismet 4.1.1 – All in one Favicon 4.7 – Classic Editor 1.4 (just
   a while ago) – Limit Login Attempts 1.7.1 – Simple Page Ordering 2.3.2 – TablePress
   1.9.2 – WP Mailto Links – Manage Email Links 2.1.7
 * Afaict no further specific WP modifications anywhere.
 * Best wishes,
    Arie

 * Hiya,
 * So the “update failed” message is often caused by the REST API not being available,
   it would be great if you could check if your theme or one of the plugins is causing
   a conflict here.
 * If you have a staging site or similar to test on (the recommended approach to
   testing is to disable all plugins and use a default theme, and see if the problem
   goes away. Then enable them one at a time until the problem returns to find out
   what causes issues.
 * If you don’t have a staging site, the [Health Check & Troubleshooting](https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/)
   is going to become your new best friend. It will let you use Troubleshooting
   Mode, which simulates this empty setup only for your user (and might even detect
   the cause of the problem wit hthe built in Site Status checks it also is able
   to perform).

 * Hi, if I get some spare time, I’ll check if a plug-in is causing this.
    Thx!
