Support » Fixing WordPress » All of my websites are getting "Internal Server Error"

  • I was trying to get one of my websites (which happens to be using wordpress) fixed because the permalinks were being redirected to a pharmacy spam site.

    The only things I did:

Set permalinks to default (then I set them back to Posts, think that fixed that problem)
Added a couple wordpress plugins to scan the site for viruses but they didnt help so i removed them. Looked at a couple htaccess files but DID NOT change them or update them.

Somewhere in that process, every single site on our 1&1 account is showing an Internal Server Error. Sometimes the site works if you refresh it enough but 9 times out of 10 it’s an internal server error.

Edit: I also updated WordPress in my troubleshooting!

Any ideas what could have happened here? I don’t want to lose my job…

  • Also, I called 1&1 support and the only thing the young man could tell me is that I needed to “optimize my scripts”. Something about there’s not enough processing. Basically, he wanted me to get the private server instead of shared hosting and that would supposedly fix it. Does this make sense to anyone?

Nope. Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message. Your hosts should be able to help you in accessing your site’s error logs.
