I upgraded my working WP 2.8.6 install to WP 2.9.1 and now I cannot view my (regular) pages (post pages are fine). I thought it curious that no updating of the database occurred during the upgrade (it normally tells you this … it didn’t this time), but didn’t linger on it.

    So now –

1 – I can create a new page (and the permalink on the write panel looks fine). But when I try to view this page, it gives me a not-found error.

2 – Same thing with old pages: I get a not-found error when I try to view them.

After (belatedly) reading, I suspect my predicament may have been caused by migrating an existing site/database into an install via an auto-installer (Fantastico). And true, the database still had in so I used a text editor to replace ‘’ to ‘’, saved and uploaded it and then edited the wp-config.php to point to this database.

    But still no go ….

Anyone who survived a similar experience?

  • A lot of the time this can be caused by permalinks….

Set yours back to the default. (You may also have to delete your .htaccess file off your server.

Once thats done….test your pages and see how things are functioning.

If you are good….reset your permalinks to the custom structure you would like.

If that doesn’t work…try the old standby…..switch to default theme and deactivate all plugins to test…..

Wow! How easy was that! I thought the problem called for major surgery …. but aspirin was good enough for it, it turned out.

The culprit was the Advanced Category Excluder (ACE) plugin.

    Thanks RVoodoo.

OKay, I tried all the suggestions and all my pages are still broken links. Any other theories or ideas to share with me, please and thanks?
