All images suddenly broken,files still on server

    Overnight, I have the same issue on multiple sites. My files still seem to be present and healthy, permissions still set to 755. But ALL the local images are broken.

    Disabling plugins and changing themes had no effect.

    This happened to multiple sites running different combos of plugins, though of course there are some universal plugins, but again, disabling plugins did not bring back the images.

    I can still “view” the images via File Manager on cPanel. I haven’t touched any of the sites within the last 3 days, so it wasn’t something I just did.

    Any suggestions?

    Link to one of the sites?

    Wonder if some kind of hot-link protection kicked in?

    What output do you get when you try to load the image?
    Delete or rename you .htaccess file and try to load the Images again. Maybe there is a mistake at the rewrite rules.

    Nicely done, MarkRH!

    I checked cPanel and indeed Hot Link Protection was enabled. Now I have images back.

    I guess eliminating images does technically prevent hot linking, but it seems a bit overkill….
