I have just installed another WP client on my pc and Im using the same theme as I do on another domain. The thing is that ALL image files shows up as white boxes! There are no preview. Images does not show in the design either, in Explorer I can see empty image containers but in other browsers its all empty all together. I cant get images to work in features such as the themes image slider either.

Also theres tons of unstable experiences with things not storing etc. When I edit a post and publish it, its all gone back to how it was before I did the edit when I return. There are numerous errors of this type. What’s going on? Its not the theme cause its working fine on another domain.

Is this a fresh installation and database?
Or did you also move the database?

If you moved the db as well, then the paths to the images are most likely wrong. A tool like http://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
    helps when moving the database.

If not, then I would look at the HTML source code of your site and see what the paths to the images look like. It could be a number of things.
Your WP installation might not be quite right.
Your theme may be faulty or missing something…

if you’re installation is on your PC, it’s hard for us to see. 🙁

    Christine,

My installation is all new, that is I bought a new license for a theme that I have running on another domain. So I went trough the process of installing another account at WP etc. So all the files are new, nothing is from another database.

The thing here is that I finally contacted my host to see if it was something wrong with my installation and after a lot of debate they finally switched some names: changing all wordpress folder permission to 755 ( from the root ) and all files to 644 for this. That worked, all the images suddenly became visible, but I am still struggling with a weird looking theme admin.

This episode scared me cause all I did was installing wp and a theme I already knew as a stable theme, then all of a sudden I have these WP file issues to deal with. Seems to me that WP has a rather messy program code if this can happen just between two identical installations? It’s impossible to avoid if its all corrupted WP codes.

That sounds like you hit a server issue – not a WordPress one. It’s the server that controls file & folder permissions – not WordPress. On most decent hosts all folders are 755 and file are 644 by default.

esmi, thats a good thing to know cause my host said this was a case of WP changing and/or updating files on the version I installed. They also said that WP does this from time to time and default solution are sometimes changed. It seems strange to me that WP changes files that hides img files. Hm, I really dont know what to think.

I have posted another email to my host to see if they are willing to come to the cross and admit some fault on their behalf. But they seem to point at the installation files that WP makes available for download.

No – WordPress never changes permissions on any files or folders for the simple reason that this functionality isn’t built into it. The permissions used on a new install are picked up directly from the server’s configuration.

To be honest, I think your hosts are spinning something of a yarn here. 🙂

I appreciate that info esmi, my host seems to be almost vaccinated against faults of their own. They even emphasized that solving this issue should really be out of their support responsibility, but they did it to be nice.

What host should I choose for WP sites? I’m in Norway normally so I have used a domestic host to avoid time differences, but something tells me I should be looking to change. I guess its not a big and tedious thing to move sites?

Although we do not personally endorse them, there are some hosts listed here. Also searching the forums using the keywords “host” or “hosting” may provide you with some suggestions.
