All Google Analytics traffic marked as ‘Direct’

Hi,

Since updating to 4.2 most incoming website traffic are marked as “Direct” in Google analytics, even though we know for a fact it’s mainly from “Organic”.

We haven’t made any other changes to the websites that might cause this change.

Any idea what causes the problem?

Update: Doesn’t seem to be fixed, still high % of ‘Direct’ traffic on the websites in turned on UCSS for.

Any other ways to fix this?

I am running into the same problems. I’d just like to verify that I added the right things to the guest mode excludes:

By adding that code we have fixed the issue with Organic / Direct, however our pagespeed insights has now fallen massively with render blocking.

@darrenburn when you say ‘that code’ you are referring to the exact code @esposito88 wrote in his post?

@esposito88 did you solve your problem by adding this list to the Cache > Exclude setting?

I’ve made the changes you suggested above on the 21st of March. It does seem to have effect on the direct hits, but it’s not clear if organic hits are now picked up correctly. I want to give it a couple of days and check it again.

@studiobovenkamer for me it does have an effect, but it’s not 100%.
About 50% of the traffic is still seen as direct.
