  • Resolved Trible

Truly miss the Classic Editing that was standard in WordPress… but… onward and upward…

Have Google searched several different ways and cannot find a solution for aligning my Google map to the right of my text (as it is sooooo easy to do formerly).

    Please help?

    Thank you in advance.

I’m not a serious block editor user, so maybe I’m missing the intended way, but maybe as more of a workaround:

Place all of your text HTML into a custom HTML block so you can easily contain it all in a single div container with a unique class attribute.

Add CSS code to the Additional CSS customizer section that sets that div and the map div element widths to something that adds up to 100%. Apply float: left; to both elements. You’ll likely want a media query for smaller screens that sets the widths to 100% each so the small screen layout is as it is now.

You’re not alone about the block editor. I find it takes me sooooooo many more clicks to get done what I used to be able to do with the original… what they now call classic WordPress editor.

I feel though WordPress has taken a GIANT step backwards with this block editor.

Your idea for using an HTML block did not work either as that block does NOT allow users to align it left or right. Grrrrrrrrr! The old style tag idea of floating left and/or right no longer applies in the block editor either.

Their own instructions here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/map-block/ are outdated too. Them map block does NOT look anything what they picture anymore at all.

Am having issues with their YouTube embedded videos too. They too can NOT be aligned or reduced in size.

If WordPress deserts this block editor in the future after all my frustration of having to work WITH it… think I’ll SCREAMMMMMM!

    Thanks for trying,
    Trish

    Hey @bcworkz,

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank YOU!!!!!!

Your idea for using the HTML block for the map iframe DID work to float the div right (like in the classic editor)… BUT… I also had to put all of the text that I had aligned left, into an HTML block too, and have it float left(as in the classic editor and HTML before that)… and FINALLY… IT WORKS!

PLUS, I used your idea here for the YouTube iframe and IT WORKS too.

Thankfully, my videos in question do not need to have text wrapped around them as `align: center’ inside the iframe code worked fine.

Pheeew, so now, you have helped me solve THIS issue too! BIG HUGS!!!!

Whoever said this block editor was created to make it “easier” are crazy… to say the least.

    Thanks again,
    Trish

You’re welcome! The block editor is “easy” as long as you’re not picky about layout and will just accept defaults and simple options 🙂 For the rest of us who are more graphically demanding it can be extremely frustrating. Thankfully custom HTML and CSS is possible, but one has to pretty much be a coder to make best use of it.

I think everyone I know who are even halfway inclined that way also dislike the block editor and use the Classic Editor plugin instead. It does have an option where the user can pick one or the other on any given post.
