    Hi,

Word fence has alerted me that two core files have been changed –

    Critical Problems:

    * WordPress core file modified: wp-includes/taxonomy.php

    * WordPress core file modified: wp-includes/update.php

But when I log in and click “See how the file has changed” I get the message “There are no differences between the original file and the file in the repository.”

Can anyone please explain this? Seems to me like word fence isn’t functioning correctly, one way or another.

  • Just came here to ask the same thing. Wordfence reports that many files have been changed, but sees no difference. Happened about 4 hours ago.

There has been an update this morning from WordPress 4.1 –> 4.1.1
These X.X.X –> X.X.Y updates are usually automatic, but there may have been a delay between your sites updating to the new security release, and the Wordfence servers scanning your core files against the repository. I would check your WordPress version, update if need be, and then initiate a manual scan.

    Thanks Barnez,

My sites are up to date with 4.1.1. I didn’t consider that this would be down to the delay, thanks for clearing this up 🙂

Wordfence, maybe something could be done about this to prevent these false alerts?

    Cheers

    You’re welcome!
