    Hi there,

Hey Guys, just wondering does this plugin properly calculate taxes for california for alcohol and spirits sales?

Unfortunately, the WooCommerce Services extension won’t be able to distinguish whether a product needs a different tax rate (alcohol and spirits) than any other product.
Your best bet here would be to manually enter specific tax classes for those products or to use a service like AvaTax, which will allow you to add additional tax codes to certain products.

And for future reference, “Bumping” does nothing on these forums 🙂

    Best,

the AvaTax looks very interesting, thanks for the heads up!

Also…taxes complicated. For instance, if shipping beer in california outside the county with common carrier, and never have done a self delivery, tax rate is ca base rate of 7.25, BUT if you have even onetime delivered something then you are supposed to charge the destination delivery address tax rate.

    Hi again,

Sheesh! That is complicated! If AvaTax doesn’t fit the bill, you may want to reach out to a developer who can write up an extension that applies conditional tax as you’ve described here. If you want to explore that route, I’d suggest reaching out to one of the services on our Customizations page
    (https://woocommerce.com/customizations/).

@rossviviano whats up ross, I am engineer! You guys are calculating taxes for various items using taxjar it looks like, I guess I am just surprised you aren’t more familiar with tax situations directly instead referring to a 3rd party. This isn’t a dig at you, but is there are somebody more familiar with woo-commerce and woo services that could respond to this thread?

    Hi again,

While I’m sorry this isn’t the answer you’re looking for, we aren’t developers here at WooCommerce support and aren’t able to provide support for customizations, so if AvaTax doesn’t work for your needs, you’ll need to customize the WooCommerce Services extension to modify the data sent to TaxJar’s API.
