 * On my admin page I get the message:
 * Akismet is not active. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.
 * How do I find that API?

 * Go to WordPress.com and register, and you’ll get your API key.

 * Note that you don’t have to actually register for a blog there – you can simply
   register as a “user” to get the API key.

 * OK, I went there and I already have a WordPress.com blog

 * none of this makes sense. i have a WP hosted blog with Akismet already installed
   and activated. i cannot find the api key anywhere. i tried the register with 
   wordpress.com etc but obviously my blog url doesnt link in with the new wordpress.
   com api which is just a username registration,
 * i have seached through all the posts on this topic but still cannot figure out
   where this api key is – its certainly not in my profile!
