Ajax Category Selection Speed

    Hi, I am using HTML5 Category Selector, which is a three-year-old plugin which adds an autocomplete function for the selection of categories. I have around 10,000 categories on my site.

    An input box is added under the category list, and when users start typing the results are shown in a live list. So if I type “dav” I will get results for anyone named “David”

    About three days ago the search slowed to a crawl. When I add the first letter “D” it will take over one minute and CPU usage goes up to 100%. I did not change anything else on the system

    I was wondering if something was changed on the ajax or core javascript that could cause such a slowdown. Any advice most appreciated.
