Ever since the April 9, 2021 update, one of our clients has been having a hellish time saving meta descriptions. When they edit a page or post and save it, the meta description is gone after the page update refreshes the page. They have to then enter it manually separately, and it’s a coin toss whether it will stick. When they create a new post, they must add the meta description separately after the post is made (I think they’re adding it from the page/post list pages), because their meta information disappears after hitting Publish.

They publish 10-15 posts per day, and they’ve lost meta descriptions on a number of pages, forcing them to dig up their previous wording from whatever source they can find. Today we had to dig out their home page meta description from Archive.org because Google reindexes their every few minutes and their old meta language was lost.

This might be related: they also noticed that after publishing or updating a page where the meta description disappears, the internal page rank drops to 0/100, as if it is failing to detect any content on the page whatsoever. When they update again to reinsert meta info, it pops back up to its expected rank.

Are there any known issues that might account for this behavior?
