Hello. Have you tried to backup database only?
In some cases it may fail to backup files. For example the total files size is too large, timeout issue or webhost related issues. So, try to backup database only to see if work or not.
You mentioned BackWPup. Do you really mean BackWPup? Is yes, then you must post on wrong thread. This thread is about BackUpWordPress.

hi, i’m try to work with real backupwordpress plugin but i have two issue:
1) safe mode on. i can’t change it becouse my hosting provider say that it would be dangerous;
2) wp-cron.php issue: 503 Service Unavailable. this depend from safe mode issue?
You mentioned about safe mode on. I’m not the author of this plugin, I can’t say much how it is affect on the plugin.
I checked the safe mode information on my website, it is off. Based on my experiences, some websites will run correctly no matter the safe mode on or off. Safe mode is a security feature, but in fact it causes many new problems. Safe mode has been DEPRECATED as of PHP 5.3.0 and will be removed on next version.
Your provider said it would be dangerous to turn off, yes he is right. But if safe mode is on, many web software (Drupal for example) and plugins may refuse to install or run.

Some webhosts allow users to change the safe mode locally. My suggestion is to contact your webhost ask if you’re allowed to do so.

If you’re not allowed to turn off safe mode, you better move to other webhost. Or you might have many issues with safe mode in the future.
Good luck.
BackUpWordPress 2.2 should now work with safe mode on.
