  • The Social Publisher is awful. It is bad like no other plugin I have ever tried. It requires you to create a ‘Facebook Application’ and then ‘Associate an Open Graph action-object pair for your application: people can publish an article.’ Which then leads you through the innards of the FB developers site, trying to submit apps, publish actions, debug access tokens and enter secret codes.

At one point I was faced with this advice from someone:

“Make sure you have included the OpenGraph Meta Tags on each object page with the crucial og:type tag set to YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE:ACTION_OBJECT.”

I gave up after an hour and a half. What on earth are FB playing at, releasing this garbage? And it says “Make your WordPress site social in a couple of clicks.” Ha, that is hilarious.

And these are their official instructions… How many clicks is that exactly?

    Hi paaliaq,
The default plugin configuration treats each post as an Open Graph protocol article: there should be no need for a YOUR_APP_NAMESPACE:ACTION_OBJECT unless you are trying to map special custom post types.

A Facebook application is required to connect your WordPress authors with a Facebook account and publish on their behalf without needing an active session.

As of version 1.3 you can choose to opt-in to Open Graph publishing and its special news-related features when you are ready and have completed Open Graph action setup and approval.

Hi, Thanks for replying, but I have to say:

Listen to yourself. ‘The default plugin configuration treats each post as an Open Graph protocol article:’

What?!! And what on earth is mapping special custom post types?!

I am a normal (non-technical) person who uses WordPress plugins to simplify complex operations, as are the many other users who have criticized this plugin. We are not Facebook Coding Engineers or otherwise, skilled in ‘Open Graph Protocols’. Your entire response illustrates the huge problem with this plugin.

Here’s the thing – I instead used Publicize (through Jetpack). Unlike your false advertising theirs did literally take 2 clicks. Your FB plugin most certainly does not. I have never found ANY other plugin to be as convoluted and user-UNfriendly. Hence my review. End of story.
