Support » Fixing WordPress » After upgrade, weird tab problem

  • I just did a complete manual upgrade. Unfortunately it didn’t resolve another issue I was hoping it would fix. It did add an issue. It’s a minor one, but annoying.

In the posts page of the admin panel (the page that lists all the posts), there are tabs at the upper right. The tabs aren’t wide enough for the links that go with them, so everything is all overlapped and illegible.

    Like this: partial screen capture

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Neither of those made a difference.

The error you are having is caused by a javascript problem, almost 100% guaranteed. You can use FF and Firebug or IE9 and Developer tools to find the problem. Either of the above can be configured to check the javascripts as they are activated and to stop at the error.

You should also check here, to make sure your java version is the newest.

Being in the backend, there is no way we can help other than general debuging which you did by disabling all plugins and changing the theme.

I’m new to Firebug. What do I do with it? Just be sure it’s installed/activated, and then load the troublesome page? Or do I have to do something else after that?
