If for some reason it also removes the Links menu item, just re-set that field in the options database once after deactivating Link Library and never reactivate it.

    I did it again
    Punt link_manager_enabled to 1
    Activated link library plugin,
And that puts ink_manager_enabled to 0
    That is not good.

Of course. But you said that all you were using was the Links menu, and the Links widget. Both of these are provided by the core Link Manager plugin, and not by Link Library. So you should not need to re-activate Link Library, since you were not using any of its functions.

I made pictures from what happend. And did look in the database at link_manager_enabled:

    Please look at:

So activating link library plugin puts link_manager_enabled to 0

It may be useful to add something more descriptive that “Re-Import Links”. I saw it, but wouldn’t have thought to click it if I haven’t found your comment in this thread.

@pembo13 Noted. I will add some verbage around the button. Although the FAQ that appears after the update does more clearly explain what the use of the button us.

@eljaaa: I understand what is happening. Let me try to explain again: Is the only way that you display links on your web site through the Links widget? The built-in WordPress Manager provided the core Links section, and the Links widget in Link Library 5.9. Link Library adds a bunch of stuff, like extra fields to add data to links, and shortcodes (e.g. [link-library]) to display links on pages in fancier ways than simple bullet lists.

Now, let’s see where you fit based on your usage of Links:

    – If you are only using the Links section to store link names and URLs, then only use the widget to display them as a simple bullet list, you do not need Link Library!!! Get rid of it!!! Just delete the Link Library plugin and set that entry in the options table that makes the built-in Links Manager re-appear

    – If you are using other aspects of Link Library (e.g. Shortcodes, extra fields in Links), Link Library 6.0 and higher are no longer compatible with the old Links Manager. When you install version 6.0 or higher, data from the old Links Manager is converted to a new data format, and the new Links Manager is hidden. Old shortcodes from Link Library will still work to display links. A new widget has been created. It does not work exactly like the old one, but it is possible to do something similar with some configuration.

Which of these two scenarios do you fall in?

Should I close this topic? Are you still using Link Library?

Yes thank you so much i am not using the plugin anymore!

I gave up. At least at this moment. Did a lot of testing. This all cost too much time.
It is even difficult with versions of the older pluging.
And decided at this moment to keep the old version.
In the latest “oldversion” the recaption does not work.
So I had to look for a version where it did, but than other things does not work.
Just choosing version with the least problems.

    You say :
When you install version 6.0 or higher, data from the old Links Manager is converted to a new data format, and the new Links Manager is hidden. Old shortcodes from Link Library will still work to display links. A new widget has been created. It does not work exactly like the old one, but it is possible to do something similar with some configuration.

Data is not converted. Data looks gone.
I get it again by de-installing Links Manager, and making my menu visible again with inlog in the database.

I do not use the widget, I use a page.

Take a look at this response:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/reimport-all-links-deletes-all-link-categories-and-imports-no-old-links/#post-10787104

I can’t if I asked you if you came from the most recent 5.9 version, or if you were running an old one. If you were on an old one, you might be missing some fields, which makes the upgrade process fail.

If you are still having problems, please e-mail your library configuration to me to ylefebvre at gmail.
