After the last 2 updates of this plugin it is not possible to exclude IP address in Pretty Links Options – Reporting. I have tens of various excluded IP addresses separated by comma, but now it is not possible to add another IP address (separated by comma, eg. 40.77.167.5, 40.77.167.4), but previous added IP addresses are still on the list separated by coma. I have WordPress 5.2, PHP 7.2 and plugins are updated.

Plugin shows: “ERROR: Excluded IP Addresses must be a comma separated list of IPv4 or IPv6 addresses or ranges.”

@cartpauj I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials. I have flagged your account temporarily. That just means that your post will need to be approved and @ notifications from you will not work.

    https://wordpress.org/support/guidelines/#the-bad-stuff

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.

@jdembowski I’m not sure how it was worded, but to my knowledge I’ve never asked someone to post their credentials directly on the forums. We refer them to our support contact form instead.

Please lift the restriction on the account as it will severely hinder my ability to support our product.

    Thanks!

@cartpauj You’re misunderstanding our guidelines a bit. Our guidelines protect users from being solicited for their login information – whether you did that privately or publicly. That’s not a personal thing, that’s a rule we have on the forum for everyone.

Please lift the restriction on the account as it will severely hinder my ability to support our product.

That is often repeated and is completely untrue.

Your account is not banned. You are 100% not a company here, you have no service level agreement with any of your free opensource users here at all. There is no such thing as “I need to reply as quick as I can” in a volunteer community forum.

Please set your expectations appropriately. Having your account moderated just means that you will have to wait for a moderator to approve your reply or any topic you create. This does not hinder you in anyway.

The moderation flag will be removed when the moderators are convinced that there will not be a repeat of this. There is no time frame for that. Just continue posting appropriately without violating the guidelines and that’s all that needs to be done.

@anevins I definitely understand where you’re coming from. However, it can be nearly impossible to “fix” something we’re unable to replicate ourselves. So many times it is usually best to ask the customer to set up some kind of staging environment or gain temporary access to their dashboard where we can troubleshoot the issue.

In that case, what you recommend on the best way for us to proceed without violating forum policy?

I’d just be transparent that you are at the end of the road of supporting someone here. We know you’re doing this all out of your spare time and it should be expected that at some point that spare time will run out. People will get that.

If you have a premium support service you can suggest moving onto that (as a last resort), otherwise just say you can’t continue the thread for your reasons and walk away.

@anevins will do, thanks for reaching out.

    @cartpauj It’s simple really.

    • Do not offer to access a user’s site.
    • Do not accept offers to access a user’s site.
    • Do not provide contact details to bypass this restriction.

That’s it. It is not necessary to do that either.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

Edit: If you or anyone need to contact the moderators about this then you can do so via the Slack #forums channel.

To use that channel you need a Slack account. You can obtain one via these instructions.
