• Um, I’m so loathed to appear like I’m completely useless…

But, I’m new to WordPress; so I did a trial run with it a couple of months ago, and then, when I thought I’d got the hang of it (which I did), I deleted it (with Fetch) from my site, so that I could start afresh.

Since doing a fresh install though, I can’t get it working at all!
When I click the link my hosting company sent me

    I get this message:
    WordPress – Already Installed
You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.

And there’s no way of getting into the fresh WordPress – the initial page is entirely blank, and the dashboard/admin link tells me: The requested URL /wp-login.php was not found on this server.

(I was expecting access to a new admin page at least?!, but it appears to show traces of my previous test attempt (DW written in top corner):

I’ve configured the wp-config.php file with the correct database info, yet, any attempt I make to get in through a back door just errors

Do my database tables need clearing (i.e. do I need to get my hosting company to do something?) – or is it my WordPress installation that’s glitchy?
I’ve combed the WordPress forums, but they’re all a bit technically confusing…

  • you either need to drop all tables in database or create another database
you can use phpmyadmin in host control panel to drop tables

    Thank you Samboll,

presumably my hosting company have to do that – since I don’t have access to a host control panel… or phpmyadmin

I’ll ask them to sort it for me
