Support » Plugin: Link Library » After reimporting, links duplicate and categories disappear

  • After upgrading to 6.0 beta, my links were a mess. Many were duplicated and some did not contain categories. After reimporting a few times, not only are duplicates still present, now all of the categories are gone. I am now receiving this message:

Link Library: No Link Categories on your site

There are currently no link categories defined in your WordPress site. Link Library will not work correctly without categories. Please create at least one before trying to use Link Library and make sure each link is assigned a category.

Sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

First, go to the Categories section under the Link Library menu and double-check that there are really no categories.

One thing I can suggest would be to install a plugin like Bulk Delete (https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulk-delete/). Once installed, go to the Bulk WP menu and scroll down to the section called “By Custom Post Type”. Check any boxes for entries that start with link_library_links. Also check the option Delete Permanently, still in the “By Custom Post Type” section, then click on Bulk Delete.

Once this is done, re-try the Re-import Links button under General Options.

Let me know if this helps.

There are indeed no link categories in the link library. There are however categories under the “links” menu.

I was able to delete all the links easily in the link library by adjusting the display size to 500 maximum items. Thus, I don’t think I would need a mass delete plug-in unless I’m missing something.

Deleting all links should do the same thing as the mass delete plugin. However, you should also make sure to empty the trash before pressing the re-import links button under Global Options.

Yannick. I tried deleting the links permanently and then importing but I am still having the same problem more or less. This time, the categories are there but I am receiving duplicates.

I see that there’s a link checker that detects duplicates. Is there a way to remove those as well? I have 219 links currently, so doing this manually can be difficult as well as error-prone.

OK, I’ve deleted the duplicates manually but I fear that they may come back. Please let me know if there is any information I may provide to further diagnose this issue.

Unless you press the re-import links button manually again, there is no way that these duplicates will come back. This was a one-time upgrade issue.
