Support » Fixing WordPress » After plugin upgrade, admin pages are blank

  • Resolved Mikko Saari

I tried to upgrade Post-Plugin Library from to from the plugin management screen. The upgrade was successful, but the plugin wasn’t reactivated.

Now I can’t access the admin interface: I get blank pages. My blog works fine, though.

I tried to remove the files from the server and uploaded the manually. Didn’t work. I tried replacing the files with, which definitely worked. That didn’t help either.

    Any ideas?

  • Are you talking about this site, which I got from your profile? I’m guessing not, because it’s not a WordPress site, is it?

When you remove the plugin from the server, are you still unable to get into the admin interface?

In looking into this plugin, I found this description:

The Post-Plugin Library does nothing by itself but must be installed to provide shared code for the Similar Posts, Recent Posts, Random Posts>, and Recent Comments plugins.

If you upgraded the Post-Plugin Library but not the other plugins, it might have caused this error. Look and see if the other plugins need upgrading as well. Good luck!

Thanks, I was able to fix the problem.

The cause was indeed Similar Posts, not the Post-Plugin Library I upgraded. Similar Posts was calling a function in the library that didn’t exist (that I found out from the server error logs; always a good idea to check those out when something doesn’t work!). Commenting out that line fixed the problem, and I was able to upgrade Similar Posts as well.

However, what’s the curious bit: I checked the old version I was using, and that doesn’t have the function either… Strange stuff.
