Support » Plugin: Yoast SEO » After latest Yoast update, all pages redirect to homepage

After updating Yoast (free version) to the latest version, all pages/posts on site redirect to the home page. Checked via Google Chrome Console, it is result of 301 redirect.

Tried changing permalink structure to plain “/?p=123”. Pages loaded correctly. As soon as it is changed back to “postname”, the problem is there again.

Tried removing htaccess file and putting in a fresh one, still same problem.

Reloaded site from backup, removing database and all files, still same problem.

Completely removed cpanel account and restored. That fixed the problem. But tried updating Yoast and same problem happened again.

Went through this cycle 3 times, each time the redirect problem occurred after updating Yoast.

  • Seems similar to this issue here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/7-4-2-created-a-410-redirect-for-my-website/
But that person is reporting 404/410 error and a missing front page.
I’m not keen on any plugin writing redirects to the database I don’t like WordPress doing it either. Any redirects, I want in htaccess, then I know precisely where they are and what to do if it screws up.

This is still a problem. Any help would be much appreciated. For the moment, I have to keep Yoast on the previous version in order for things to work correctly.

This could also be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:
    1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
    2. Check for conflicts.
    3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.
If you didn’t find any conflicts or errors, we think the issue is specific to your site. We’d need to investigate further but are unable to do so on these forums. You can purchase Yoast SEO Premium and receive our Premium email support and we can help you further.

    Hi @devnihil

I’ve got an update on the issue.

The problem happens whenever a WordPress theme has the following line in its functions file:
    add_filter( ‘rewrite_rules_array’, ‘disable_embeds_rewrites’ );

If I update Yoast while that line of code is present in the functions file of any theme, the site goes into the redirect loop.

If I remove that line of code from the functions file, the loop stops. If I add the line of code back, the loop does not restart.

Also, if I remove that line of code from the functions file of the theme before updating Yoast and then update Yoast, the loop does not occur.

I’ve replicated the above steps at least 15 times just to confirm.

The issue is related to updating from Yoast Version 7.3 to the current version.

Please review and then update this thread.

    Thank you.
