    Hi all,

After uploading the WP files to the FTP location and modifying the wp-config.php file, the installation wizard will not start!

All I get on http://<nameofsite>/wp-admin/install.php is IE asking me to download the install.php file..
Also on the root of the site I get IE asking me to download a file with a random 8 character name..

    Does anyone recognize this issue?

  • Do you have another browser you can try with?

IE in this case is for some reason not executing the php file and sees it as text. Using Firefox is one way to find out if it’s just an IE problem or the server is doing something wrong.

How did you upload the files?

    Thanks for your quick response.

I’ve tested it with IE, FF and Chrome. Same result.

I’ve uploaded the files with FileZilla.

It sounds like Filezilla could have uploaded them in binary mode, not ascii mode.
Can you see that as an option for uploading?

Just uploaded all the files in ascii mode with file overwrite.
    Did not help..
What could it be? Maybe PHP not enabled on this host? But it should be..

I would certainly contact your host and ask.

I’ve asked the provider what version of POP they support, if PHP is enabled and if het MySQL servername is localhost. But it’s a national holiday, so they will not anwser before tomorrow probably.

Let’s say everything is correct on their side.. What else could it be?
I’m out of options unfortunately. Hope you can help me some more, I would realy like to setup a WP site, since I have done that before and love it.

Just received an answer from them, PHP was indeed disabled.
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Glad it’s fixed 🙂
