Support » Networking WordPress » Afraid to delete original superadmin after creating a new one

I just need a firm confirmation here, because I’m too afraid to lose the access to my multisite…

In topics around security, I did read that it’s wiser to not have “admin” ID as administrators (or superadministrators) of sites.
So… I just created a new superadmin and also I gave it the administrator role in main site and in all subsites. So now I guess that user is totally equal to the original superadmin, right ? (except that it has a different email address otherwise I coudln’t create that new user)

Now I would like to DELETE my original superadmin (who has the id “admin”), then give my new superadmin the email address that was originally attributed to my original superadmin.
Is it OK if I do that ? No risk ?

    No!

    It’s not.

    Go to /wp-admin/network/users.php

Click on ‘edit’ for your new super admin.

Scroll down and look for ‘Super Admin’ – check the box that says “Grant this user super admin privileges for the Network.”

THAT is how you make a new super admin 🙂

Now log in as the new super admin, and remove the access from the old admin. If you can do that, you did it right 🙂

Yes, when saying “I just created a new superadmin”, I meant that I had ticked the box “Grant this user super admin privileges for the Network.” Sorry I was not clear.

Thanks Mika for your quick and thorough reply. It definitely reassures me and I’ll go forward.

Hmm I marked this topic as resolved a little too quickly (I am suprised I can still reply – I suppose it’s because I was the author)
Anyway, it all worked well, almost.
I attributed to the new superadmin the email address that was originally attributed to the original superadmin.
From there, I removed the original superadmin (ID = admin) from main site and from each subsite. So she is not even a user on any of the sites. So far so good.
However, in wp-admin/network/users, I can’t remove “admin”. When hovering it, the link “delete” is there and clickable but clicking has no effect. Any idea ?
