Do I have to set up unique links for each product? Or can people just promote my home page?
Or can people just grab a link from product x page and all clicks will be counted from that?

You can set up unique links if you want. Your affiliates can also promote your homepage if they want too.

We created this plugin many years ago from scratch. Feel free to look at the code. It has helped us with some of our sites and many users use it and it works fine.
Different people have different requirement and different viewpoint and opinion. One solution will never fit everybody. That is normal. We totally understand that you may not like it. Nobody is telling you that you need to use this one. Feel free to use the one you like.
