• I’m looking into WordPress as a possible solution to some needs our organisation has, and need advice on how feasible the following campaign would be to implement in WordPress:

(I am not looking for a how-to, just an indication of how possible this is and if plugins would be needed).

Imagine an online campaign which includes 10 entries each opening a week apart over a 10 week period.

The landing page includes the title alongside the first image present in each of those entries – these need to be displayed initially regardless of the entry’s opening date. So there would be 10 title and image pairs being displayed. The entries that are published are clickable, but those that are not published yet, would be greyed out and non clickable.

On the same page, the full content of the single most recent entry is displayed, so that the page always displays the latest single entry that opened that week.

On the same page, using the first image present in each entry, a large header image is displayed at the top of the page. Further down the page, that same image would be displayed at a smaller size in situ.

Is WordPress a good fit for this? How easy/hard would it be to implement? Could it be done out of the box or would paid/free plugins be needed? Thank you.

  • You can certainly do this in WordPress.

What you want sounds quite custom so I am not aware of any plugin that would achieve this ‘out of the box’. You’ll need to create a custom template to get everything to display the way you want and a few extra fields in the admin to control when the full post goes live. Nothing too difficult but it will need to be a custom build.

    Thank you for your reply!

I haven’t built a WordPress site in quite a few years so I am not sure what you mean by a “custom build” – can you clarify? Are you referring to customising the templates, or to building a custom plugin, or something else?

You would need custom templates/theme and maybe a plugin where you define the campaign entries. So someone who knows php and the wordpress functions.

You should pay someone to do that work for you or update your knowledge.
