• I am working on a project to develop a new site that will be accessed in about 20 languages. I have all the content for the site already translated into the various languages. I just need to figure out the best approach for deploying the new site.

I believe each language will have a different domain name in their respective countries. My question is should I set this up as a multi-site wordpress or use on of the several plugins available that allow wordpress to be multi-lingual. I have worked on migrating a multi-lingual sites before but only with 2 languages not 20 and I was not thrilled with one of the plugins which was used (polylang).

    Thanks!

  • Hi @jimkrizan,

I’m not very familiar with multisite websites. But I think the idea here is:

If the 20 languages will have almost the exact content, except that in different languages, the best way to go would be to use a multilingual plugin, such as polylang or wpml.

If the content varies a lot between languages, probably the best idea would be to go for multisite.

But another thing to consider is if the content will be updated by one person, in which case it would be far easier to do on a single site, instead of a multisite.

    Hope it helps,

Yes, thanks for the advice! You confirmed what I was basically thinking.

    Much appreciated!
