Support » Plugin: Google Tag Manager for WordPress » Advanced Matching / Pulling email to dataLayer

  • How do we push emails to the dataLayer. Many remarketing services require this to be in there tracking codes so it must be added as a datalayer variable. How can this be done and is there any plans to add as a feature? Im assuming it would require some sort of hook and the wp_get_current_user call

According to the usage terms of Google Tag Manager you are not permitted to add any personal data into the dataLayer. This includes email addresses of logged in users. Technically you may implement your own code that adds this to the dataLayer variable but this this is against TOS, your container could be deactivated once someone reports this to Google or Google itself finds out during a pro-active scan.

What you could do is to store the email address in a global JavaScript variable and read this variable on the GTM UI. It is almost the same and I think this kind of solution is more grey than white.
