    Hi all,

We use the premium version of The SEO Framework and I saw a posting recently that suggests the plugin does not natively support advanced custom fields (which was have for the transcripts on one of our sites).

I also saw a reference that their may be some work-arounds for this. What’s the best way to have the plugin see our advanced custom fields?

    Thanks for any guidance!

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

The only issue with ACF is that the fields aren’t considered for meta-generation, nor content assessments via our Focus extension. They’re not inherently incompatible.

If you genuinely need this integration, then you can register the fields for TSF and Focus via PHP snippets. However, I doubt implementing this intricacy is worth your time more than manually assessing the quality of your snippets and content.

Hi Sybre, thanks for the speedy reply.

Hmmm, not sure I know enough about the technical stuff to know the right question to ask. Here’s what I’m trying to do:

Here’s an example of a episode from my wife’s podcast:

    https://teachinginhighered.com/podcast/inclusive-practices-through-digital-accessibility/

We want to make sure the search engines see the transcripts, which are in a box near the end of the post. I think this is an advanced custom field, yes? Doesn’t matter to us much how it’s called/categorized, so long as search engines can find it practically and tie it to the post.

Previously, our developer had us on Yoast and using this plugin, which I’m assuming helped with this:

ACF Content Analysis for Yoast SEO

Based on that, anything you’d suggest we do to leverage the plugin in the best way for this?

    Hi Dave,

We can’t assess from the backend whether Google will find text on the front-end. There are many independently moving parts on both your website as on Google’s server we know nothing about.

I can prove that they can find the texts, however, by strictly searching for a phrase, deep inside the collapsed transcript.

In that, I think your wife and you are doing fine 🙂

I don’t know whether analysis for transcripts is helpful–since you can’t change what has been spoken already. Again, I doubt it is worth your time implementing a feature you don’t need.

Nevertheless, if you want to tackle it, please reach out to me via the contact form on our website so that I can tailor a snippet for Focus for you. It’s a paid product, after all, which we aren’t allowed to support in these forums. Thank you!

Sybre, thank you so much for this.

Agreed fully on all the above — and thanks for capturing that search. I’m no expert on SEO, so knowing that Google is capturing the text already was a key question I was hoping to answer. Hugely helpful!

And yes, not going to change transcripts, so need to do anything more. I appreciate you making the offer. I’ll reach out personally if we discover otherwise on other issues…

Thank you so much for looking into this and responding so quickly. Appreciate all your work on the plugin. We’re using it with great success on both our sites!

    Peace,
    Dave
