Here’s a statement from Spectra about that I found after a quick Google search: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/i-did-like-the-addon-but-they-removed-advanced-columns/#post-15930075
With some positive info:
By the way — deprecated blocks do not mean they will stop working altogether. They will continue to work, and we will even offer support for them and release fixes. We only want to encourage people to use the newer and better blocks instead of the legacy ones.
I’d assume if a lot of folks are still using this block, individuals (as well as Spectra) will continue to release patches to keep it functional.
Hello @aakash8 ,
@calebprenger85 has indeed responded well.
Legacy does not mean the block will have errors. It will continue to work on existing sites.
The legacy block won’t be available on new sites, as we have introduced a new similar block called “Container.”
The new container block is modern and more feature-rich.
You can convert the existing “Advanced Columns” block to “Container” easily in just one click. This is how you do it: https://d.pr/v/8uaQPJ
If you want to continue Advanced Columns Block on your existing website, please feel free. It, however, won’t get future updates as we will be investing in the new “Container” block.
If you’re having any issues with the “Advanced Columns” block, please let us know, we will be happy to help and help you fix it.
I still don’t think it’s the way to go. It makes me look really bad as a web dev
@calebprenger85
Besides the block being named Legacy
on the backend, it should have no effect on your client or end users as long it as continues to function correctly.
From Spectra’s statement, these blocks will continue to get functionality updates, just not new features.
You can use the recommended steps in the post above to convert them to the new Container
block if you’d like to get additional features, or continue Advanced Columns
.
Hello @calebprenger85,
We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
Thank you!
