# Admin panel hacked

 * My username was changed from webmaster to admin and the password changed to admin
   also. The email address was changed to [nullbytes00@gmail.com](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/admin-panel-hacked/nullbytes00@gmail.com?output_format=md).
   
   How could this have happened? Is there a security issue? Many thanks.

 * It could have happened in a lot of different ways, but most likely are, more 
   or less in order, that you had a bad password, a poorly designed theme or plugin,
   or there is a security flaw in your server configuration. It is really hard to
   say exactly what happened without access to the server and a lot of forensics
   work.

 * Thank you for your replies. I will indeed be reinstalling the site. No, this 
   is the first time this site has been hacked.
