Support » Fixing WordPress » Admin Panel disappeared – unable to add new user or activate plugins

  • Hi

    I’m a newbie to this forum. Hopefully someone can assist. While I’ve been building static sites using html and css for years; I’ve only recently got to grips with WordPress.

    My WordPress site – has been working fine until a couple of days ago. I recently undertook two changes:

    • I tried to activate a plugin to enable users to view the dashboard in their native language. The activation didn’t work; and
    • I changed my user name.

    I now appear to have lost my admin rights, but don’t know which of these actions may have caused the problem. I’m no longer able to add new users (when I go to “Add New” I only get the option to add an existing user). Furthermore, there’s no option on the menu for “Plugins” and I’m unable to edit existing users. I’m sure that, previously, my dashboard had an “Admin Panel”, but it’s no longer there.

    Having searched for help on the forum, I’ve undertaken a fresh install of WordPress and ensured that the plugins directory (which contained the failed import) has been overwritten by the fresh install.

    I’m using a child theme of Twenty Ten.

    My wp_capabilities meta_value is – a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;s:1:”1″;}

    Any assistance offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and regards
