Support » Fixing WordPress » Admin Page Won’t Load

  • Hi, My admin page is completely unresponsive and won’t even load. I’ve tried different browsers and different computers. I created a draft yesterday and that’s the last time I was able to log in.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Try instead of /wp-admin. I can see your login dialog that way. If it seems to log you in but takes you right to another blank page, see if you can navigate to and regain any back-end navigation at all.

So brought up the login page, but then it took me back to /wp-admin and came up blank again. 🙁 The second option just came up with a blank page. Thank you so much for the suggestions! Any other thoughts? I’ve used WordPress for a decade and I’ve never had this happen before! Baffling.

It could be something as simple as a plugin or theme update that’s causing an odd issue for some reason. Some of the standard troubleshooting steps include temporarily disabling your plugins and temporarily switching to a default theme to rule out any odd compatibility problems that could pop up.

Take a look at the similar issues that have had discussion here in the forums and see if anything shares similarities with your situation. It may spark some ideas.

You should also find some standard troubleshooting steps that might help you narrow down the cause: Common WordPress Errors

Server logs can also be a good source of information if you are able to view those errors. Your hosts support group may be able to help you with that if you are unsure.

..And from the troubleshooting guide, some things you can do to diagnose:

    Cannot Access Dashboard

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I hope something there will help!

Thanks to Clayton for the wp-login.php idea above. This worked for me when I could not get in using /wp-admin

p.s. guys I’m sure you’re already sorted but for me it turned out to be the w3 caching plugin that was causing an issue. It auto updated and I think conflicted with another plugin. I was also getting strange results where pages were full of ascii characters and no content when clicked.

This was only happening on woocommerce category and sub cat pages. Hope this helps .
