  • Login to your hosting account and check if you have files such as .htpasswd and .htaccess inside your wp-content/uploads. If you find them, just delete them.

If that does not help, deactivate all plugins by renaming the plugins folder (at your cPanel) as plugins-old.

    Thanks for your reply.

There are no .htpasswd or .htaccess files inside wp-content/uploads. Your second suggestion also didn’t resolve my problem.

But nevertheless I am still thankful for your quick response! If you have any further idea(s)…

    TY, G.

Do you have the same problem if you switch theme to Twenty Twelve (also with all plugins off)?

BTW, since when/ after doing what are you getting this popup password notice?

Dear Krishna, thank you for your answer.

Few hours ago my webserver admin sent following e-newsletter (to all his users); my “NOTAM” has stayed unread due to SPAM mail filter:

“Dear users, due to massive brute force attacks on Joomla and WordPress administration pages we encounter in last days, we decided to take some countermeasures and put on server some additional protection elements.

As you can see, the problem is solved…
I am truly thankful for your time and assistance.

    Best regards,
    G.

Glad to know that you could resolve the problem! 🙂

Please mark the thread as resolved.
