• Suddenly I can’t log in to my blog as the administrator. That is, when I type in my admin ID and password I get an error message that says: Invalid username.

What steps should I take to remedy this.

You’ve probably already done this, but just double check for case-sensitive issues, and be sure to try entering the credentials manually if you are normally in the habit of using any auto-complete browser features.

It seems we’ve been hacked! There’s only one user noted in the user table: snIPer04_dz listed as user 1. All the other users have been deleted.
So what I need to do is either:
replace the wp_users table with a backup or
rewrite the user 1 data and forget about the previous users, right?

BTW this has also occurred on my other blog site.

How do I prevent further such attacks?

I decided to rewrite the wp_users table and forget about the 900+ previous users, taking the risk that the really interested users will re-sign up via an improved Captcha interface. It appears that none of the content was altered and I have backed up the site (as usual) after adding a new post. Thanks for the help, ClaytonJames!
