Admin Custom Post Type List – default to pending

  • Question:
In the admin, when I click a custom post type, can I have it default to “pending” items?

    Extra Information:
I have a custom postype with 40,000+ entries. When I click on the menu item in the admin for the post type, it times out with an out of memory error. I have had no success with any of the possible solutions that I have found by Googling. It seems like a lot of people never solve this issue, so I want to try another approach (for now at least).

Since I mostly just have to view pending items to approve them, I thought that might at least let my page load.

    Any help is appreciated.

Bit of a dirty hack, but you could hook ‘admin_init’ and alter the menu link target in the global $menu and/or $submenu. Add &post_status=pending to the current array value, normally something like edit.php?post_type=your_post_type.

Don’t get you hopes up, the error may be from the size of the table queried and not the size of the returned values. Certainly worth a try though, good luck.
