Have you added the recipients to the notification? Also, wasn’t it moved to the spam folder?

Ah that was it.
I added the following in recipients section:
email / merge tag
value: {user_email}
But now I do receive both, the default wp email notification AND the newly generated email with my custom text.
Any advice on that?

You can disable the default email with Manage Notification E-mails plugin.
