 * Hi Forum,
Since updating wordpress, I’m finding it difficult to login to my
site using Chrome. Previously, when navigating to wp-login.php, chrome would
present a dialog saying something like “WordPress Administrator CAPTCHA Enter
username: (some random text), Password: The result of math 20 + 8”
 * Since updating WordPress to 4.4.2, the Chrome prompt just says “authentication
required”, and doesn’t display the math problem. This makes logging in tedious
unless I either switch browsers, or memorize these additional credentials. I
can still log in, if I know what it wants me to type, but it no longer tells
   me.
 * IE11, in contrast, says”the server reports it is from WordPress Administrator
CAPTCHA …” so that I at least know what I’m expected to type.
 * I’ve reproduced this on a test blog with a clean wordpress installation, so I
know it’s not caused by any plugins. Is there a way that I can correct this in
a “stock” wordpress installation (for example, by changing the username to something
I can more easily remember)? Or is a login plugin the way to go?

 * What plugin are you using for the captcha? WordPress does not do that on its
   own.

 * Hi, I have just been dealing with a similar issue, and I believe it is because
my hosting provider, hostmetro, somehow injects that math problem CAPTCHA for
WordPress logins. However, recently it has not been working with the Google Chrome
browser. The hostmetro support person told me that they are aware of the Chrome
issue and suggested some Firefox CAPTCHA plugin for Chrome as a workaround. I
   have not tried this workaround.
 * Hopefully somebody at Google is aware of this issue and is actively working on
a solution as my Chromebook is my primary laptop for maintaining my WordPress
   site.

 * My host is webhostingpad. Apparently they’re the ones doing it: [https://wordpress.org/support/topic/password-protected-page-asks-for-authentication](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/password-protected-page-asks-for-authentication)

 * Any updates to this? I just realized this was happening to my 2 WP installs with
Host Metro as well, and as Eric said, they suggest using Firefox as a work around.
I used MS Edge browser and it worked fine, and I can copy the login info to Chrome
but it’s annoying. The same thing happens on Android Chrome too.
