• I have been running my website http://www.cinefantasitqueonline.com with WordPress for two years without problems. Last night, the website and the administrative section suddenly slowed down to the point where pages time out before loading. Stats have recorded 5 page views so far today, whereas usually the number is over 2,000.

I had not made any major changes to the site. Since noting the problem I have deactivated some plug-ins. The only one that seemed to make a (slight) difference was automatic wordpress backup, but the admin section still tends to time out, and the website does not fully load: the footer is missing.

You probably have questions about my service provider, javascript, etc, but here’s the thing: I have another, almost identical wordpress website running off the same provider, and it is working perfectly.

Both cinefantasituqeonline.com and hollywoodgothique.com are hosted on Bravenet, using Justin Tadlock’s Options Theme. Cinefantastique uses the Blue Danue child theme and wordpress 2.7.1.; Hollywood Gothique uses the Shaodows child theme and wordpres 2.7. They have almost the same plugins (except Cinefantastique’s are now deactivated).

Don’t know whether this is relevant, but on July 12 I set the WordPress Database backup plugin to email weekly backups for both websites. The one for Hollywood Gothique arrived a week later; never received one for Cinefantastique.

When I noticed the problem with Cinefantastique, I tried to do a backup with the WordPress Database backup plugin, but it wouldn’t work – got to 12% and stopped dead.

Does this mean the problem is with the database?

I seem to be having the same problem. I have no idea how to even approach this.

I experience slow down too. It happened after I changed my domain from goblogger.net into http://www.goblogger.net . The load of dashboard and website is a bit slower. When I tried to return it, it was still slowed down, not getting better. Before slowdown 1-2 seconds load, after slowdown 4-6 seconds load. Anyone knows why? Or it is just my connection?

Same slow down problems I am facing since I was to install more than 15 Plugins. I see Admin page loads very slow.

After installing some plugins I have more than 8 Widgets BOX on Admin Dashboard screen.

Disabling/Deleting/Closing some Dashboard Widgets was a bit helping in my case.

But still I believe my Admin page loads very slow.

Stevejay – Did you find a way to resolve this issue? I’m having the same slow-down after launching the WordPress Database backup plugin to email weekly backups for my website. I deactivated the plugin but that didn’t help. Thanks for any insight!

    Hi, everyone,

I am in this now, too. My website is suuuuper slow now. http://www.nationalnetworkforinterpreting.ac.uk/

I’ll try optimising the database (have already deleted all the plug-ins I’m not using and enabled caching) and also playing with YSlow – on my work machine Firebug simply wouldn’t go into any version of Firefox I’ve tried so far…

My theme is Atahualpa and it would be super if I didn’t have to change it…

If anyone has any more ideas in the meantime, it would be brill!

    Cheers, everyone

Update: I changed the theme to Mainstream which also looks cool I think and has quite a few features and the website (touch wood) is running a lot faster. Hope it stays that way…

I’m having the same problem. Admin pages take so long to load that they often time out. I’ve repaired/optimized the database but nothing helps.

Could the pages be waiting for something from WordPress.com?

Also, when everything times out I usually get bounced back to the login form.

My site itself runs just fine. It’s the Admin area that has slowed to a crawl.
