Support » Fixing WordPress » Adjusting the sidebar

  • Im setting up an Amzon wordpress affiliate site using a premium template (Kingdom) by Woocommerce which doesn’t have a sidebar down the right hand side of the front page, so I added one, but its too narrow and needs to be more in the centre of that space, please see hotkitchensupplies.com to give you some idea of what Im on about.

Ive looked in the config.php file, but being a bit of a newbie to WordPress, I don’t know what to change regarding the position or width of the sidebar.

Another thing Im not sure about is if I change anything in the config file, won’t it be erased if the template gets updated by Woocommerce in the future

Its somewhat confusing for me and that’s why Im here for a bit of guidance.

    Thanks a lot.

    Michael.

  • A) Your wp-config.php file is not touched by WordPress updates.
    B) What you want to do can’t be done in the wp-config.php anyway.

You need to customise your CSS, use either a child theme and customise your style.css file. OR use a “Custom CSS” plugin (some themes include this).

Use a browser explorer such as firebug to identify the CSS constructs you want to target, and set the required widths. Be sure to test how your site renders on browsers + tablets + phones as suits your marketplace.
