Adding video/swf files with thumbnails

Greetings all,

Question about adding video. We are using the work-a-holic theme and a key feature of this theme is that the latest posts show up as thumbnails on the homepage. With images this has worked fine. But when I tried to upload a video(.mov,.swf)it doesn’t load into the wordpress page. It shows in the upload gallery window but not on the page itself. The initial workaround for this was to embed the movie into the html of the page which does work but then no thumbnail shows up. Is there a way to upload video in wordpress the same way you upload images or do you always have to embed the video file.
