Adding thumbnails

Hi all,
I’m not getting anywhere really here – https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-do-we-get-the-display/
So am wondering instead, how do you insert thumbnails into the events page list format?
I have an image inserted in the page of the event, but can’t get thumbnails working.
Any and all help would be highly appreciated, thank you.
