Adding thumb nailed categories on homepage

Hi! I’ve searched this for over two hours now and still don’t have a solution. I’m using the Shop theme. I love it.

On the homepage it only gives me the option to choose one category of products to display. What I would like to display are four categories under the slide show that you could click on and be taken only to those photos. It does this perfectly on my store page. A dream come true would be to have my Store links under my slideshow on my homepage.

As you can see, I’ve learned how to add categories to my homepage another way, but this is totally settling, and not what I really want for my homepage.
