Adding second level category dropdown menu to Shine Theme

I am using the Shine Theme and would like to have a second level menu for Categories with drop downs for child subcategories but have spent hours trying to modify and figure it out to no avail. I would like it right under the page menu and the thin bar line there to separate the two menus. So far my attempts have put the categories on the same menu bar as pages and have put them a a vertical menu bar under the page menu but I can’t get it where I want it.
