Adding new widgets to Responsive theme

I am brand new to wordpress! I have added a new widget to my child theme responsive but whatever I drag to it goes away when I refresh the screen. It also doesn’t show on my webpage? I added the line `<?php if( dynamic_sidebar(‘where_in_the_world’) ) : else : endif; ?> to my index php where I want it to show up by nothing appears on the screen. I think it is because the widget I drop in doesn’t stay? Any ideas? The site is called notabletravel.com.
