Support » Fixing WordPress » Adding media files to menu

  • Hi,
    I am redesigning a web site and looking at media files. What I would do is the have users upload documents to media. Then have editors to add a link to the file in the menu like so

    Organisation
               --> Minutes of Meetings
                                    --> Subject 1
                                               --> Link to file

    by selecting uploaded media file as a type of object to add to menu. I know I can copypaste the media file URL into a menu item, but that is less user friendly.
    Thus I am looking for the above solution somehow.
    Suggestions on how to do this?

  • Instead of trying to add files to the menu, you should consider a destination page that lists the various files, with associated information like date and subject.
    Then it would be easier to update, keep all in one place, and better experience for the user because clicking menu links should keep the user in the site, not strand them in a media file. Also, a link to a file in a page can easily be downloaded, whereas it’s not intuitive to do that with a link in a menu. Also, if the theme shows visited links differently, the user can easily see which ones have been read, but menu links typically don’t change the visited style.

    Valid point, thanks. I will consider that – haven’t really found something that does it in a meaningful manner yet, I want to minimize user involvement in setting up the page in that case.

    Here’s one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/list-yo-files/
    Edit: sorry, that one is not available for download
    But there are others.
